There are two major types of Spam that we see on our site: Advertising Spam and Self-Promotion or Original Content Spam
This is any kind of post or comment with a link or a reference to another site for sales of products or services. These are not welcomed at all and are generally deleted as soon as they are discovered or reported.
- Self-Promotion or Original Content Spam
This is a website domain or video channel usually created by the user, whose intent is to share with the Voat Community, which is very cool and we love original content. It becomes 'very not cool' when most or even all that the user links is their own domain or channel without linking other stuff, and makes the community feel like it's being used for hits. In fact, it's so 'not cool', it's in violation of our site's submission guidelines...
Can I submit links to sites I operate? Submitting only links to sites you operate (or are associated with), without submitting other, unrelated links, is considered spamming... To be on the safe side, if you submit 10 links to various subverses on Voat, at most 5 of the 10 submitted links may be to the sites you are associated with.
All spam -whether posts or comments- are subject to deletion and may warrant bans to the domain and/or the user.
How to Report Spam
There is a button below every post and comment called
report - if you see something that smells like spam then push that button, mark as spam, and thank you! Janitors and Moderators will review these anonymous spam reports and action will be taken as needed.
Major offenders can be reported here at v/ReportSpammers by making a post to get the Domain reviewed for either a possible ban or a guidelines message to the primary user; this link, Domain Spam Report, is the guiding template for reporting domains and is the most effective for getting spam addressed and stopped on Voat. Enter-in the the basic info needed (that's the stuff in CAPS you can type over), the spam types are Ad Spam or Self-Promo Spam.
Users should please only be reported if their spam activity pertains to 10+ posts/links of a single video channel or as a last resort because they are spamming multiple domains; this link, User Spam Report, is the template for reporting users, entering the YouTube channel name is helpful.
Special thanks to each and every one of you who pushes that
report button (whoever you are!) and makes posts here at v/ReportSpammers - we all owe you a debt of gratitude for your vigilance in helping to keep Voat free of spam... Thank You :)
