If you're a cheap goat like me, you probably already know that hand formed burgers are always better than the frozen junk offered at the grocery store.
For those who don't, or maybe you're just interested in a different take on a tasty burger, try this combo.
- 1.5 lbs regular ground beef
- 1 egg
- Fresh ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 Tbsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp cumin
- ~1/4 cup of your favourite BBQ sauce
In a large mixing bowl, mix ingredients thoroughly, but not for too long. The spices find their way into the fat which sticks to the sides if you mix too long. We want that fat.
Hand form baseball (hardball) sized balls of meat and work into patties. Place on parchment or wax paper in single layers, cover and refrigerate for 30mins or longer. These patties will keep in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Warm up your grill to "smokin hot" before reducing heat to about 50% and grill for a few minutes each side. Burgers should be juicy and browned, if you over cook them they will be too firm so keep a close eye! At this point I sprinkle some seasoning salt on top.
Melt your favourite cheese on top of the patties as they finish, and serve on a soft bun with your preferred toppings. I like to lightly toast my buns, but not everyone does.
Crack a cold one and dig in! You will know that you got it right when everyone has beef grease dripping down their chins! ;)
