Soda was all I really drank growing up, It was all the adults in my life gave me to drink. It's a miracle I wasn't overweight (but I had loads of cavities). As I got older, I realized it wasn't healthy and tried to add other drinks to my diet. Once I reached adulthood I decided to cut it out entirely. I haven't drank soda in almost 15 years.
First step was replacing the soda with alternatives--juice, water, flavoured milk, coffee, tea.
Next, I stopped buying it in the bottle and only drank soda when out at restaurants.
Lastly, I stopped all together. It didn't take much time to see a difference. I lost 10 lbs in a week and my stomach was no longer bloated. After many months of no soda drinking, I was offered a can of Coke. But when I tried to drink it, it made me feel ill. That was the last time I drank soda.
Now I mainly drink water. I feel much healthier for it and I do not miss drinking soda at all.
It can take time, especially when replacing the soda with alternatives. Soda is so sickly sweet it affects your sense of taste, so it can be difficult going from Soda to say regular water. But be patient, take baby steps and over time, the less of it you drink the more you'll realize how gross it is and how much more flavourful the healthier alternatives are.
Anyway, saw this sub on the front page and wanted to give my encouragement as a 'former soda addict'.
Best of luck!
