The burning of hundreds of thousands, into the millions-range, of frail and weak civilians by the most powerful fire-bearing weapons carriers ever devised is a truth-so-horrible that its horror must be projected onto a vanquished enemy.
If there are German or French anons here, let me address you. Civilians from Harvard and MIT in Boston assembled the Rad Lab early in WWII, to make the firestorming of cities a realizable horror. One necessary civilian boarded a ship in Boston as this project got underway. Down the east coast of the United States. Across the Carribean to South America, to Brazil. A quick dash across the Atlantic to Africa, and carefully up the desert coast to disembark in Portugal. Just one of a team. An airplane transport dash from Portugal to England was the last step. Some team members were shot down by the German air force. The work of such a team enables dark-painted, big airplanes to mark cities with a large marker of fire using new radio technolgy. Then hundreds and hundreds more fire-droppers would do their deeds.
And when you realize just how evil your work was . . . then you smoke cigarrettes without stop, and get drunk every night, for the rest of your life, and tell children, over and over, since age three. You get drunk and talk about the truth.
Which apparently you are forbidden to do much in Europe. But that's how I know details that aren't in the books.

And I include France because more French civilians were slaughtered by these air attacks than all the American soldiers who died in Vietnam.
