Are you talking United Church of Christ or what? I was baptized in a little Church of Christ in Illinois. They did not espouse any of the stuff you're talking about. They had two pieces of "dogma" if you will that I remember well: no istrumental accompaniment of the singing (which, frankly, was my favorite part of the church service--all the acappella singing, beautiful voices and harmonies by all those southerners who had moved to northern Illinois to work in booming industries there in the 1960s) and baptism had to be immersion.
I don't know what Church of Christ you're talking about, but I had an entirely different experience of the Church of Christ I grew up in.

Hmmm. That's the church I grew up in. I still appreciate the people I knew there. Is this the same church you're talking about in the OP?
