I thought this way, too. Live and let live. Then, I pondered, why is there intolerance of this deviancy? The reason is it is completely selfish. It does nothing to contribute to society. Moreover, I think SOME people are attracted to the same sex because of confused biology, hormonal imbalances, or something like that; however, and this is especially true among males, I think, much homosexuality is "nurtured". I think people kling to their early sexual experiences as a "turn on" throughout their lives. When a young person's 1st sexual experience is with someone of the same sex (most common in homosexual pedophillic abuse cases), it fucks up the head of the 1st timer. Not only do people who are exposed in this way go gay; they're also often closeted and / or self-loathing. Lots of psychological issues. This is why societies discourage or SHOULD discourage homosexuality. It has no redeeming qualities for anyone but the practitioner. It is anti-family (unless you contort the law to let homos adopt), which, also, can lead to more homosexuality; if not directly, then by normalizing it. It is against the social order. It destroys. I'm not saying, "String 'em up!" But I do believe homosexuality should be discouraged. It CERTAINLY should NOT be celebrated.

If being straight was "discouraged" it wouldn't matter to me. Sexual preference cannot be discouraged away, at least in my case.

Of course. But people who are harmful to society could be shunned. No employment and certainly no contact with children.
