What reason is there to think 8kun is different? 8chan no longer exists. 8ch.net is dead. The folks who ran 8chan are bringing it back under the name 8kun ("-chan" and "-kun" are slightly different ways of addressing someone in japanese culture, which is likely a nod to CodeMonkey's heritage). All indications are that 8kun is the resurrection of 8chan just under a different name, NOT really a different platform. If you follow CodeMonkey on twitter you'd also see that he's been discussing various ways in which they are upgrading the site - most notably using blockchain-based tech to power the image boards. They're also coding an in house replacement for Cloudflare services (ddos protection), though right now I believe they are using the AlibabaCloud services for this.
If both 8chan and 8kun were going to be online at the same time I'd agree with you... but that isn't the case.
