The London Independent: What is Qanon? The Origins of Bizarre Conspiracy Theory Spreading Online (29 Mar 2019)

This may have been covered earlier on Voat, but for those who missed it, I'll repost it here. It's relatively lame piece from the Independent, which is a big-circulation center-left British newspaper.
If the paper wasn't such a controlled operation by the British Establishment, this opening sentence would actually be a very good start to explaining what Qanon is trying to help the masses discover on their own:
"If QAnon’s claims were true, they would shake the very foundations of global government and explain the confusion of politics in recent years. As it is, they are not true – but their importance could nonetheless be hugely significant."
Here is the sum of their exploration of Q's claims:
"But they spread out in to a vast conspiracy theory, which links up to people including Hillary Clinton and Robert Mueller, who is running the investigation into Russian interference in the election. It borrows from other conspiracy theories – such as Pizzagate, which accused a variety of well-known people of running a paedophile ring, and the long-running false claims about the death of Seth Rich – and adds yet more on top.
"Q has posted that Special Counsel Robert Mueller isn’t investigating Trump at all — he’s really investigating Hillary Clinton, John Podesta and Barack Obama. Other theories involve familiar players in conspiracy theories such as the Freemasons and the Illuminati, while others mention The Titanic, paedophile rings in Hollywood, and the possibility that former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin wears an ankle monitor. Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, the Rothschild family and Satan also make appearances in discussions."
That's it. That's the sum of their explanation. All good fodder for an investigative reporter to sink their teeth into, if they weren't propagandists and stenographers. Even one deep dive would be intriguing for the readers, but the writers leave it hanging.
These hit pieces leave all the allegations superficially exposed, just like Jim Comey did in his notorious July 2016 presser exonerating Hillary Clinton, but they don't take the next logical step. It's a common method used by propagandists to address an allegation without really addressing it. And then the rest of the article is devoted to esoterica, or simple declarations that "this isn't true" without examining the claims.
Any publicity is good publicity, however. And it does demonstrate the message rising up into the news mainstream, so big thanks for the Independent's lifestyle editors for commissioning an article on this fascinating mass communications program by clandestine elements of ____.
