It just seems that Q is still trying to convince us, that primary audience, the "awoken", that he is real. It's like if a Christian professes to have faith in Christ yet in his prayers ask Jesus for a sign that he is real.

For Q's primary audience there is no question of authenticity. For those who are not believers, and still blow Q off as a wild conspiracies, these people will never, ever believe. Faith in Christ, and Q have another similarity. Some people will not believe until they see with their eyes, yet there are somethings that must be believed to be seen, because the doubt that causes you not to see that truth, biases you against seeking that truth.
