I don't think Catholics generally have a great deal of difficulty separating their own virtuosity from the decadence of the church officials. At least in the USA. American Catholics I know aren't slavishly oriented toward the pope or the church hierarchy, and are quite vocal about their displeasure with him and them.

edit - should have used the word "virtue" lol

Thanks for the reply, I haven't been around many Catholics (and the ones I was around didn't talk about their religion).

Must get old being a Catholic and having Protestants (especially Baptists) trying to convert you.

That was an interesting use of "virtuosity."

Just think of that kid from Covington high school. He's pious and virtuous but I'm sure he's aware of the shenanigans among the cardinals and priests and maybe the pope.
