In Sweden VAT is 25% on most goods and services (otherwise 12 or 6). But before that, if you have a salary, before taxes, the employer pays about 1/3 in taxes. Then you pay a third of what's left in taxes. Then if you've been good and earned more than roughly 40k USD/year, you also pay a national tax that's 20-25%. Then, of course, there are more taxes, but these are the main ones. Lovely huh? 😁 🔫

X is your salary. Employer pays X/3 to government, thus employer is paying X * 4/3. You receive X, and pay X/3 as taxes; thus, you take home X * 2/3.

Your take-home pay is one half what the employer spends.

Then you get taxed on the rest.

Mad yet? I sure am!
