Yes it was officially a labor camp, where they worked people to death. They under fed them and they got sick and died due to malnutrition.

They had a pretty much endless supply of manual labor so those were disposable. The ones with a skill working in war industries tended to be fed a sustenance diet to keep them alive.

Yep. The Nazis needed work done but they didn't care if the Jews died or not. There are plenty of eyewitness accounts of these camps along with photographs, but not many living people with the tattoos of their number on their arm. There are also video-taped accounts of people who were at the camps, including a few Nazi guards. The Nazis could always get more Jews from nearby and a train system was set up to several of these camps, so transportation of lots of people was not a big problem.
