Okay. I live in Wisconsin and would point out that there's a reason that Wisconsin was where beer making really got going in America: it's because so many of Wisconsin's original settlers were German. In the middle school my children went to (they graduated high school in 2011 & 2014, so not all that long ago), every student was required to take one semester of Spanish in 6th grade and one semester of GERMAN. So, yes, many people in Wisconsin have German roots.
However, at what point do we just remember that teenagers do stupid shit all the time? The difference between now and ten years ago is that now nearly every teenager in America is walking around with a camera in their pocket and the easy ability to throw proof of their stupidity up for everybody to see. You can see looking at this picture that many of these kids are laughing and looking a little like kids being photographed with their hands in the cookie jar after Mom just told them no cookies because dinner is in five minutes.
There are bigger dumbass things for teenage boys to do than take a picture like this. In fact, anybody who sees the car insurance rates for teenage boys know that they have a tendency to do a lot of dumbass things when they're driving. (BTW, teenage girls do stupid shit too when they drive.) If the parents of these CHILDREN want to scold them and explain to them what people might find offensive about this photo (including, likely, many of the ancestors of these boys who may have fought for America in WWII), then that would seem prudent in my mind.
However, for NPR and other so-called "NEWS" organizations to put on their high-and-mighty stance as being the virtuous arbiters of proper social behavior, I have this to say to them about that: "Back the f-ck off, you treasonous, hypocritical douche bags. How freaking dare you say one word about the antics of teenagers given your daily active participation in the undermining of democracy and freedom? GO F-CK YOURSELVES."
