But if in March 2017 Micheal Trimm received these links, why didn't he download and decode? For a 'life insurace' the key has to be kept seperately. And the connection to Sessions doesn't make sense. He's fine, very fine!

No one has the key yet.
If there will ever be a key released, we will know what's in it - or whether it is a bunch of random bytes.
Until then, all we have is the file. I assume Trimm downloaded it, too.
It's reasonably small, so I kept it sitting around.
Just in case it's real.
Now that Sessions is actually fired, the source is supposed to cough up the key.
If noting happens for an extended amount of time, it was most probably nothing.
BTW, it never said "life" insurance...
