Someone in my neighborhood needs distant kidney dialysis several times a week.

How can something like that be prepped for?

I'm older with physical problems and can't really "flee" if something happens. That's where spiritual and psychological preparation comes in.

Why am I remembering this...? A mummified body was once found in a mountain-area cave and presumed to be a monk who had withdrawn from his community in a time of famine in order not to draw on its limited resources. He apparently sat and meditated with a sash fixed around his throat and chest that eventually tightened and took his life as his controlled breathing diminished. (I think I remembered that right.) … Thank you for being so direct in your response. The kidney patient in my neighborhood is actually my husband. I'm bracing to consider what our emergency responses might entail, spiritually, psychologically, and medically.

So prepare your home as best you can. Clear out clutter, get some long-storage food, some of those 5 gallon water-cooler jugs (full/unopened), a genny & fuel... Just imagine the power's out, the water's not running, you're stuck in your house. What do you need to survive without leaving the house for a few weeks? How can you secure your house against intruders - if not ahead of time, then prepped to do so quickly. See if there's a friend or family member or neighbor who will help you, plan ahead with them. Imagine worst case scenario and plan for as close to that as you are able and can afford to.

Good luck Annon.

Also be prepared to defend yourself (with lethal force if necessary). Buy a weapon and learn how to use it, It's your constitutional right.

yeah, that sucks, one of my neighbors is on some chemo for the rest of his life... he is a goner if something where to happen. Great guy too, he will leave a wife and teenage daughter that we will have to look out for if S does HTF. It really sucks, but it is something we need to prepare for (emotionally and physically).

check out the Patriot Nurse talking about this.
