SRS in not and never were the main problem. SRS had teeth for maybe a few years. Metards on the other hand...

Take an online loser, show them reddit for the first time, they will love it just like anyone else and start clicking. 1 year later they are sick to death of getting told Buscemi was a firefighter and Piotr was a soldier bear, instead of cutting down on reddit, they start complaining about reposts while they gather in complaining subs with other reddit losers who just cant walk away. Then one day a loser reaches a new level of boredom and clicks the chatroom link... Now they start the transformation from friendless idiot without imagination to fullblown metard.

Metards are working out of chatrooms, the bus central for bored idiots without friends. It's a few rotten idiots showing the way and a lot of bored idiots to trample the path. One month they use SRS, then SRD, then another circlejerk sub, where ever they find fresh bored idiots. Some of the "leading" metards have actual agendas but most just want to fit in or destruction, so the cause can change as fast as one idiot logs out and another logs in.

This is also why the have influence. These idiots are always ready to write PMs, emails, take over subs, circlejerk with admins. They are friendless hobos with nowhere else to be. Like homeless people at the bus station. Any distraction is welcome, and since no one with good sense ends up there, expect all kinds of retarded shit.

Unfortunately, I can see Voat heading this way as well. It's not just a problem with voting sites either, it tends to happen everywhere. I think the best way, as a newer user, is to stay out of the cliques and hope you don't get caught in the crossfire. I saw a huge write up somewhere about the chans and their multi-tiered IRC channels where decisions were made at the top what agenda to push and slowly fed down through various IRC's to the boards where the "soldiers" would take care of organizing what threads would be pushed up or down. I know they have some way of writing a message that weighs down threads with a reply that doesn't bump it.

This is the nail on the head SRS is just the verse designed to take the public blame. The real issue are the groups of bored people who have turned "social engineering" into a game. The Reddit issues started with a group of people with a whole bunch of alts who started saying "hey guys I bet in a year I can make this thing happen on this sub" on live chats. It just snowballed. The real question now is who is already doing it here. I know this isn't a popular idea but the subs with the mods everyone are going after right now is just the distraction while the build up of the "fun" to come is prepared.

Not at all unlike what our community did to push the petty dictator "she" and her followers out of here. /r/european we stand with you.

In that case it was the mods own community rebelling against something they didn't like.

I really don't understand the unholy alliance between the admins and SRS. One might think the SRS influence is against the corporate goals because it will eventually destroy the user base.

Always follow the money trail. The admins want more advertisement money. To do that they must have a certain image, to please sponsors, and this requires heavy censorship. But to monitor what people are doing would require extra resources, and money. So, what do they do? Empower a bunch of overzealous social justice warriors to scrub their website of anything they view as negative. It's like a symbiotic relationship between a pig, and a bird that picks insects off its back. The admins make their site more appealing to companies, therefore gaining money, and the social justice warriors get to inflate their ego, and feel like what they're doing is good for the world even when it's not.

I always thought that it just came down to "people on the Reddit admin team largely shared a strange fondness for SRS, hence why admins tended to become SRS mods when they left".

It's more simple than money. They all share their ego getting inflated from pretending they are enlightened.

the admins started the site by making sock puppet accounts to make it look like the site was more active than it actually was.

they all live in san fran, and at least one of the admins knew a member of SRS personally; before he got kicked off the admin team and was instantly modded by srs.

these people don't play by the rules. and if they don't, neither should we. if you want to keep them from infecting voat and take back reddit, the people opposing them need to go rogue.
