Why not just require the first 100 ccp come from default subs?

I don't like this idea because people who lurk more than comment will probably have an even harder time making that 100 CCP point. You're hurting people with niche interests instead of people who are just trying to build up 100 CCP. If 100 CCP is all someone wants they won't care where it comes from.

I do like OP's idea though. I don't think you need to have it start at a certain CCP point because who cares how many points you have. It defeats the purpose to have the starting point be anything over 100 because people will get their 100 and go inactive until reddit pisses them off again.

I think by "inactive," OP means not logged in

This seems like the most reasonable solution.

The easiest way to program it would be for everyone's CCP to decline at a rate of 1-2/day.

Are you a dev?

Linear decay, sure. Exponential decay is another option. Let the CCP reach zero after 365 days without contributions.

default subs are some of the most Reddit Filled Cancerous Subs on Voat..

Go to a default and say you dont want to suck Nigger Refugee cock and you will get a mixed bag of Up and Down Voats..

Wow, so you're saying that the default subs are more balanced and have a more diverse set of opinions? Ew.

I like the idea but there are some issues:

How do we keep people from using bots to fake account activity?

  1. If Voat allows private subverses (don't know since I'm relatively new and never bothered to create a subverse), CCP gain could be disabled in those.

  2. New report option for diligent users who spot a potential botter (spam is already a report option though)

I'm sure there's more ways to detect bots.

How do we keep people from using bots to ...

That's an unsolvable problem. We can limit it to some degree, but it's always going to be a problem.

I like the idea. there might be some problems with it.

if i were running a bot farm, i'd just program my bots to post a few comments every week. maybe they'd go into a thread and repost the top comment using a thesaurus to reword it. that's an easy work around.

the more i think of ways to keep bots out, the harder it becomes to find a solution. they might not even be bots. or they're probably bots that people use as sock puppets to get started, and then as bots once they have enough karma.

really don't see a solution to this. perhaps it's just to form tight-knit communities, possibly private subs where you have to be vetted to be a member. It would help mods if we could see who are subscribers were. then we could kick fake subscribers and only keep the real ones.

subs where you have to be vetted to be a member

Also, those could be used as fronts for, you guessed it, bot farming.

Define "inactive".

IMO voting shouldn't contribute to this so voting bots become harder to maintain.

That would end up restricting me depending on how long you would have to be inactive for. I've gone a few months without posting but lurking and voting. Should I be restricted in some way for not posting in the name of stopping the 'bad people' on this site? This all sounds anti lurker while trying to do good. I'd be forced to comment more but what if I just don't want to comment.

My thoughts exactly. About the only time I post or comment, I'm drinking and I no longer drink that much. I come here for news and such but forcing me to comment is just asinine.

I'm no programmer so I don't know if it's feasible with the resources Voat has but hypothetically there could be like a reCAPTCHA somewhere on the site. As long as you completed it once a week/two weeks/whatever-the-community-decided was reasonable it would count you as being active even if you didn't post.

"Inactive" less than 1 comment per day.

Actually, I'd say that if your comments all get to where the ones left up cannot be downvoted, you lose all your CCP.

how about instead of decay the restrictions reset? if you go a month without any activity you need to get 100 more ccp before being about to downvoat, but your points stay the same. Don't bully the lurkers

Hey, that seems like a good idea.

[–] anon3911 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

I don't know how that would pan out. I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who mostly lurk and maybe don't post often. I myself haven't commented in about a year until the recent donald drama, but I'm not a sleeper. Of course, maybe I should just post more often.

If they get 100CCP, so what? They'll be able to DV, but that's somewhat restricted no matter how many points you have. If they jerk the circle too hard, we will ruin them within days anyway. I give it 2 weeks, tops, before they simply don't want to be here or retreat into their own shithole of an existence.

Nothing stopping someone from coming by and saying something benign every month to stay active without actually being a regular site user.
As it is, will more than a few peoplw really invest so much effort to bank many 100+ accounts?
Once they say something kike-like and get downvoted wont they slip back into sub100 ccp and lose their privileges?

Good idea, but i dont know if it's the RIGHT idea.
