The same thing happened with the other two subs that came over recently didn't it? Complacency and apathy are the real danger here. If we have a bunch of new users who don't care about free speech and that are used to mods shoving them around and running a tight ship then we need to double our efforts to make sure that doesn't leak onto the defaults. If it does and it has before we all need to stand up and help those who are willing to call it out.

I see many people who are proud to say Voat is a place of free speech but when push comes to shove and a default mod acts up we need to be unified in calling that out. Maybe then these others will see our passion and wonder if they wouldn't like a bit of the same in their own subs and question the mods who have them on a short leash. If they aren't defaults lets still speak out and try to convince people its better to let a few harsh words go by when what's at stake across the whole world is our right to speak our minds. They are locking people up in Britian for being mean n the internet. Lets fight for what we have otherwise we might lose it.

I just requested to take control on the sub in v/subverserequest , feel free to upvoat it. I want to clean out the current mods that are brand new and already abusing voat, and get reliable voaters with a background/skin in the game to take over. Many of you may or may not know me, and even if you don't like me you can't point to one time that I have censored anyone, and I never will.
A couple days ago I sent this to /u/kingkongwaswrong (can provide screen shot of sent mail if needed) and got NO response and he put in a ton of brand new accounts right after: "If you are looking for a mod (even temporary). I would be happy to assist. I left reddit a year and a half ago with over 30k comment karma and have been on voat since. I am an active user and mod several subs. I am just looking to help out and will happily step down if you find a better team. Pizza gate is a/will be a big sub, so I want it to be the best it can. I have also made contributions to the subject here and on 4chan (to stay anonymous). Feel free to peruse my account before you decide. Either way, good luck and welcome.

One thing I will NEVER do is censor someone because I disagree with them, I will however uphold the rules of the sub as I do in my low activity ones. And in my experience there is rarely a gray area, gray areas 90% of the time are an excuse to censor."

Some of these people are effing terrible, and the other cancer is frontpaging their cancer posts. This dude admits to shitposting just so he can get past downvote restrictions:

Here he is bragging about farming karma: https://voat.co/v/whatever/1432327/6910039

Bragging about shitposting for karma again: https://voat.co/v/whatever/1430638/6903476

listen one goddamned minute you fucking nigger. lolcats got started on 4chan. spammy power users were a part of the reddit landscape back when the place was actually a platform for free speech. And believe it or not, voat wasn't made so that disaffected users from coontown and FPH (like you) could circlejerk about how much they hate x group. let the free market decide which posts rise and fall on their own.

They need to learn that all their mod actions are publicly logged and can and should be questioned at any time. This isn't Reddit where you can clandestinely cull the sheep one by one without alerting the rest of the herd.

Skyrock is wrong. Step 4, admins purging mods has happened on multiple occasions involving the biggest most active subs. It happened with /u/she on askvoat and it happened with all the mods of /v/science. The admins are serious about keeping this kind of shit under control and that's the only thing that will protect the site in the end.

Step #4 only happened once when Antiracist hijacked v/niggers and turned it 180° around, and the removal of him by Hand of God was still highly controversial.

It's not wrong to start the conversation, and then bring them in. I've even had that done to myself.

It is bullshit if you never bring them in.

Hi Guys,

I'm the owner of pizzagate. I added a mod who looked trustworthy from reddit. I'm not deleting comments but I saw those deletions. I am having words with the mods and will remove mods if they continue to censor.

While I wanted to be hands off personally, i think pizzagate does need direction, help and organisation since its an investigative sub rather than just a conversation. Thats why I added mods who I hoped might be able to do that. Eg managing a sticky, making sure there's no direct posts to CP or things inciting people to do illegal things like deface money.

There are also security issues - eg right now a thread about posting to wikileaks, when it could be compromised and putting users in danger.

Let me know if anyone has any other suggestions or thoughts.

Thanks /u/kinkongwaswrong for talking to us.

Don't you think that it is possible to provide direction via posts, stickies, and feedback rather than deletion?

This reminds me of Hillary treating sorting and deletion as the same process. To provide feedback deletion is not the only option. You can use words.

On the point about CP. Then delete that content. You are supporting the argument that there needs to be a mod, and we agree with you. What a mod does is the question.

You mentioned that you want to be a hands off moderator. Want is not really the issue. It's not dependent on want. It's really more of a requirement here. Is that something you could find some way to accept?

We do still like hands on moderation with stickies and directing group effort and theming and helping users feel supported. These things are great, but they are extras. Given a choice between the two we'd take a bland subverse over censorship any day, and that's assuming the two mutually exclusive. They aren't.

Moderators don't really own subverses here. Just because someone staked a name first doesn't give them additional rights. I see nothing that says that you thought they did but I want you to understand why we do what we do. If people can claim a name early and control it then that is hardly a meritocracy and in the case of other subverses could mean a real bum could control the apparent consensus even though he's one random individual.

The community maintains the right to form expectations of its moderators rather than a moderator forming expectations on users.

I don't think that you've acted in bad faith. This is why some of us wrote "I see the inevitable drama of new people coming." We knew we would have to have this talk at some point because there is no way you would know on your own.

We form the expectations we form for a reason.

Thanks for the thought out comment.

I didn't mean to imply I thought censorship was good. When I logged in and saw the deletions, I was a little troubled. Between the mods we've had a chat to indicate thats not ok. I think the mods were overwhelmed by the amount of reported comments and weren't sure what to do.

We've decided to ignore reported comments (as there is a mountain) and let people just @ us if there is something urgent such as CP.

I added the current mods so they could direct the sub in terms of stickies, flair, help with the investigation etc.

We are going through growth pains but we'll figure it out. Watch the sub and see how we go.

It is not illegal to deface money in the US!!! Some shill/idiot posted that in the dollar thread but it's BS. He did cite some correct legal code but he cherry-picked and did not point out that the whole sentence applies to altering money deceptively to change its value!

Same thing happened to me, if you check the logs Drone didn't do anything for 1.3 years and suddenly (right after we have a Pizza Party) Drone starts to delete comments left and right.

Smells like somebody sold their account and the worst part is that he is Mod for a bunch of subs.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have a huge following and things are VERY busy right now.

In addition to the Dunkirk style data and WoT evacuation that we had to do, we're also very busy protecting our privacy.

The moderation which you saw was a bit of learning. Which in retrospect, should have been more cautious. Some of us are quite honestly surprised at how well the hands-off approach of voat works. We apologize and promise that firstly, it won't happen again (I've linked to this in our mod chatroom) and secondly, we will make true the promise made by @kingkongwaswrong.

I hope that you voaters(?) join us as you're able. If you would like to address us, please message on modmail (which we're getting comfortable with) and/or join us in our chatrooms (Just come into reception, ask around for a mod, and we'll get you to the right place.
