Johnny Smith, a jazz guitarist, wrote this in 1954 and was the first to record it. Chet Atkins also recorded it. The group's founding duo, Bob Bogle and Don Wilson, chose this instrumental track, as a single after being asked to perform it in concert a half dozen times each night and got a push in The Ventures native Seattle when a local radio DJ used it to lead into every newscast. "Walk Don't Run" was recorded in 1959 but no record company would sign them so, in the end, they started up Horizon Records and produced it themselves. It wasn't until it gained airplay as a radio news signature tune that it finally made its way to No.2 on the US Billboard charts. The LP of the same name that this was on was recorded at Joe Boles' home studio in Seattle, Washington, as was their second album, titled "The Ventures".
