He's a brilliant player - in the top 10. He not only has a mastery of the instrument, he consistently makes music that doesn't suck. There are some very technically good musicians who don't make music I can really enjoy. I think my favorite might be his Surfing with Aliens album.
The OP actually heard me play an as-yet-not-public Satriani song the other day!
By the way - the guitar thread is hopping. I'm actually having issues keeping up with it.
I put Satriani at about the same place I put Malmsteen. They're both brilliant but I think I might have to say that Malmsteen is maybe technically a bit more where Satriani maybe a bit less - but making up for it with enjoyability. It's really hard to define a place between them - but I'd probably put Malmsteen on top, as a pure technical guitarist and Satriani would be who I'm more likely to have in my playlist without hitting skip.
Thanks. I knew you would have an informed, respected opinion.

Sounds a lot like Baron Von Frankenstein. You've created your own monster, but much better well-mannered. From what I've seen there, it's definitely worth the effort. I can't participate due to the drums being rather difficult (and loud) to just whip out when the mood hits, and since I'm no longer playing the only thing I have are reel to reel tapes that I never digitized. But please carry on. I enjoy it.

His technical ability is always impressive. He definitely knows his way around the fretboard. I wonder what @TheBuddha thinks of him.
