It's a copyrights issue. In 1969, Lennon and McCartney tried to buy Northern Songs, the original publisher of the Beatles songs. They lost out to ATV Music who bought the publishing rights for their music. In 1985, ATV, and the rights, went up for sale and Michael Jackson outbid McCartney. In 2016 Sony Music bought 50% of MJ's ATV holdings. The case revolves around the US Copyright Act of 1976. Under the act, songwriters could reclaim copyright from music publishers 35 years after they gave them away – or 56 years for songs from before 1978. McCartney had vowed in the lawsuit to secure control of the catalogue – an issue of growing urgency as the first Beatles single, Love Me Do, came out in 1962, meeting the 56-year timeframe under the US act in 2018. While US law is often seen as the gold standard in the entertainment industry, a British court took a different approach in December. It refused to grant rights to 1980s pop sensations Duran Duran – known for hits such as Rio and the James Bond theme A View to a Kill – on the grounds that US law did not apply in Britain. He's been trying to get control of his music for all these years and last June he finally settled his lawsuit with Sony, and McCartney has secured the rights to his music in a private settlement. He can start exercising this control in Oct. of this year. Maybe we will finally start getting their music then.
Here's a more detailed timeline and explanation. It was written before the settlement was reached.

That's a good link, thanks!
I was half kidding with my post. I'm continually surprised at how much is out there for free, knowing that whoever owns any particular thing, would most likely, want to get paid for its use. Even if Paul gets the rights, it still may be locked up tight.

I remeber an old saying that was a lot like Murphy's Law: "If Yoko can f up anything Beatles related, especially when it involves money, she will".
