Just like the ranchers all over the west coast, sooner or later they are coming for everyone that isn't packed into an apartment. It's hard to tax people like this, if they let this catch on more and more people will go with this kind of lifestyle.

There's a reason so many people are choosing to be homeless now and the feds can't let that trend continue because they will end up with a population they can not control.

Not in the USA, if this guy lived in an apartment he still wouldn't have taxable income.

Most of the homeless are not there by choice. I would say most offgridders are not what people consider homeless.

I'll agree with you on that but, that guy has more of a homeless camp rather than an off the grid setup. Just because it's not all blue tarps doesn't change much.

Most of the homeless are not there by choice.

Choices of the past or a choice now doesn't make much difference. Many many people now are choosing time over money, people in droves are realizing that happiness doesn't come from a bank balance.

Not in the USA, if this guy lived in an apartment he still wouldn't have taxable income.

That was more directed toward the ranchers part of my statement. Although just because you live in apartment doesn't mean you don't pay tax. Having a structure on your land that does not meet building codes is a hindrance to property value and there for the amount of tax revenue said property can generate.

Exactly. He didn't get permission and has no legal right to be there.

This is what I worry about every time I consider going off.

Just by some cheap land, the problem is when you try to go off the grid in say the closest forest to a large city.
