The problem with the Poles is that they never combated Communism to the extent that some deemed was necessary, when the Bolsheviks rose to power.

Jan Pilduski was quite lenient on Communists, but Communists never threatened to overthrow Poland, only Germany and during World War I, Russia. I think though people forget that even the Poles realized the negative aspects of Communism and how it would destroy their intelligentsia and the commoners class. I don't think we can explain the brutality of the Nazis to this day. I think they had a red-streak to them, were corrupted sexually, and many were part Jewish-Turkic. Its extremely difficult to say and one hates to be a reductionist in this regard. I think people forget the atrocities committed by the Soviets against Polish intelligentsia and clerics at Katyn Forest.

The Jews were offered asylum by the Soviets when they were fleeing from the parts of Europe where they were being persecuted, so clearly I think the Poles suffered at the hands of both the Nazis and Communists. I think its obvious that the Nazis are the clear winners because they committed an untold amount of atrocities towards Polish people who had never been a threat to them before, during, or after the war. One could certainly say that Jews were creating tumults and stirring up issues in Germany after WWI, but no Polish people were involved in attempting to usurp the social and political order of Germany during the roaring 20s. I think a lot of the injustices committed against the Poles was partially the result of past remorse over the loss of Eastern Europe in WWI(even after the Brest-Livotsk treaty had been signed).

The worst war crimes during WWII committed by the Nazis were committed against Poles, whether it was the strafing of Polish civilians as they worked in the fields, considering of certain Poles who had lived in ex-Soviet lands as political prisoners, and the killing off of Polish intelligentsia and clerics. Otherwise, if the Nazis had left these people alone and gone after French Communists and the Soviets(not racialized things severely) then things might have ended on a better foot and the West would have had something to gain from it. Everyone should read about the atrocities committed by the Nazis against the Poles in the region of the General Government.

Horrible and unspeakable crimes were committed against the Poles there and even the Auschwitz commandant, Rudolf Hoss, showed remorse for committing untold crimes against the Polish people from this region.
