OK, someone explain this to me, because the article doesn't make sense.
It says the officials "asked" him to quit his job at the waste water treatment plant. To me, that means it is optional. So, if it were me, I'd just tell the officials to fuck off and take the oath of office.
Unless, there is some kind of city code that specifically says the mayor can't have more than one job in the city? That would make some sense, but, the article doesn't say anything about that... compounded with the whole "asked" thing.

In my small town, the elected positions aren't even full-time. Council members get paid for time in city meetings which are maybe a handful hours a week.
So, if this guy is expected to quit his full time job as a waste water treatment plant (which is actually really good money for a blue collar job) for a job as Mayor which pays next to nothing, fuck dude, I totally get it.
