I might have been a mild case of this 'MGTOW' phenomenon myself. It wasn't gaming that became my focal point, but reading a lot. In addition, I did have the occasional relationship, but was often annoyed with the superficiality of the women I managed to court — of course there were women with more brains but these were either non-attractive or socially and politically averse to the outlook I was developing —or both!— and also the vulgarity of 'going out' (visiting bars etc.)

Part of this was also my unrealistic idea that I'd meet some sort of a soul mate, who would both be incredibly hot and would share my political and philosophical views.

It took me easily more than a decade to recalibrate my expectations of life. I am a happier and wiser man now, but still sometimes miss those hermit days though, and at times resent the fact I now have to regularly spend time with family, in-laws, family friends etc.

I admit it would be way better, demographically, if all our young one would get into having children somewhere between their 18th and 25th.
