Isn't that where " the shores of Tripoli" comes from in the US Marines song?https://youtu.be/EAx_vDlgyXk. Also our Marines are nicknamed leathernecks, because they literally would engage with leather around their neck to prevent muzzies from sneaking up a slitting their throats. Fun fact, the psy warfare theory is widely credited from our forces learning about the muzzies aversion to being in contact post mortem with pigs, to wit we would encase their high ranking dead in swine carcasses.

Yup, squadrons from the U.S. Navy and a contingent from the Marine Corps got sent over- twice- to deal with the lot of them and the follow-up of the two Barbary Wars came when a combined fleet of the Dutch and British navies shelled Algiers in 1816.
