Well, in this case we have a system of checks and balances to prevent such an authoritarian regime from coming to power. You can't honestly compare Sanders to Stalin (or Mao or any famous communist).

I keep seeing two arguments against Bernie:

"Socialism leads to humanitarian crises and authoritarian regimes"

"Well what about Norway, Sweden, Finland, etc?"

"Can't compare those; not the same."

So we're closer to Communist China and/or Russia than we are to modern-day Finland? No, I really don't think we're close to either. Which is why both points are moot.

It's a viable system in some cases, it isn't in others. What we can see now is that our current system is failing, and we're fairly aware of the reasons (corruption, in short), but no one seems to want to (or be able to) fully address the problems.

Instead of a single authoritarian regime, we've more created a Game of Houses where the Corporations fight with the DoJ fights with the FBI fights with the CIA fights with the NSA fights with the Legislature fights with the Executive branch... and the only losers are the American people, who are forced to fund all of it.

edit: How could I forget big corporate?
