Yeah, I was definitely very critical of his stupid remarks, but he is a good scientist. The fact that he's losing all of his positions seems like overkill.

I gotta say, I hate OP's title. First of all, we need to remember that Hunt said "girls", which I think carries just that much more condescension. Second of all, it's not some generic "women" who are forcing him out of positions--I assure you men are involved, too, because they were unprepared for a scandal of this nature and their knee-jerk reaction is to distance themselves from it as much as possible.

Personally, I would rather have seen a genuine apology (his first apology was very "Sorry, not sorry") and perhaps see a panel on the history of women in science, how they're perceived, what progress has/hasn't been made, etc. Use it as a learning/teaching experience, don't just throw the guy under the bus and pretend it never happened.

I personally would've rather seen people that work with him say amongst themselves "What a douche" and I would've liked to have seen no response from the media, because if we're honest, who really gives a shit? Also I don't feel that the women he works with are deserved an apology because that's his honest opinion.
