Couldn't she find another young woman to room with? Who on earth thinks letting some 35 year old Groid move into their pad is a good idea?

No shit! Best case scenario he's going to be like a normal 35 year old dude and try to fuck her constantly(because she was pretty hot and apparently had non-existent standards,) worst case scenario...the nog wasn't such a fucking utter failure and actually finished the job.

You and the three people who've upvoated you clearly have never had to look for a roommate before.

Usually people cannot afford to be so picky about roommate selection that a moderate age difference or different gender would be a deal-breaker. Race is another story obviously, and there are any number of other factors that might disqualify a hypothetical roommate. But it would be an extreme luxury to be able to say "this person seems compatible but he's 12 years older and a male so I'll go with someone else."

As for the bad credit or criminal record, I have neither of those but I like to rent rooms because it's pretty hasslefree. Why would I rent an apt for 800 a month when I can rent a room for 400? Especially when it's month-to-month unlike most home lease agreements. It's just more economical to share space. I'm 31 now and have been renting rooms off and on since I was 19. I've had bad experiences but great experiences and made lifelong friends of a number of people. I don't intend to "get on a lease myself" just because I'm approaching some arbitrary age.

Again, obviously I'm not condoning this girl's foolish decision to let this ape move in with her, but your comment makes a number of false assumptions.
