I like the Russians. They should be our allies, not Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Trump will make it happen. He's already had better communication with the Kremlin than Obama ever has.

100% Agreed. Always looked to them with admiration as a place where men are still men and women are still women. Tough, hard as nails kind of people. Sure, they're corrupt as all hell.. but isn't that what's happening here in the west as well, just in different ways?

We can't be allies because of nuclear parity. It a really dumb situation to be in but it's the facts. Sufficiently secure nations (or stratigic actors) will think in the longest term. Nothing is really an intrinsic threat besides China's economic development and Russia's nukes (as small a threat as that is). The point is that Russia's nukes are a top level threat because nothing else is of real concern. If you say terrorism is a concern then you think in terms of hype and not in terms of real strategic value, ie survival. Broad strategic goals are not based on media.
The same circumstance exists for Russia and Russia aswell has its existence pretty secured so it thinks in the longest term.
It's just game theory. Does that mean it is smart to be antagonists to one another. No, because that just increases the risk of nukes but there is a stratigic pressure to get an upper hand on one another more so than between most other nations.
It stinks because Russia would make a great ally in many ways and Russia getting along with Europe would be a complete break with thousands of years of history. They would make great economic allies of eachother but both Russia and the US think in terms of nukes and that means anyone who can get Europe as an ally will make not being an ally of the other a condition of our allegence and we are a little more attractive than Russia.
Does this mean we should disarm to end these negative dynamics? No. Us and Russia are still benefited by being the top nuclear actors and we get ourselves in even worse situations if we let the top actor be China or India. US and Russia have to accept the retarded game we are in, be contious of it and play it responsibly. Keep in mind that if one of us is on the edge of failiure that increases the odds of a nuclear strike so we should make a point of not playing the game too well. We should infact make a concious effort to get along socially to counteract the negative effects of our unfortunately neccissary circumstances.
tl;dr: I like Russia personally. I recognize that the US as a strategic entity has no liklihood of ever being friends with them unfortunately.
