(KMOV.com) – Four suspects allegedly robbed and assaulted a man on the MetroLink, leaving him bloodied, bruised, and beaten.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday night at the St. Charles Rock Road stop.
Police said four men wearing ski masks on their heads boarded the train and sat down next to passenger Mark Paffrath. The suspects then assaulted Paffrath and rummaged through his pockets and wallet, according to police.
“They pulled down their hoods and the guy in front seat tells them ‘Get him,’” said Paffrath. “As soon as that happens, I got some guy choking me and another punching me in the eye. Two other reached in my pockets.”
Paffrath said there was nothing he could do but scream.
“I was in shock. I felt almost paralyzed. Here I got one guy holding me down and choking me and another hitting me in my left eye,” he said. “And two other guys robbing me. I felt paralyzed and helpless.”
The train stopped at the Delmar platform and the men ran off. Paffrath's wallet was recovered on the train, but his cash and identification were missing.
Moments before the assault, Paffrath said another man in his early 20s boarded the train at the Hanley stop and attempted to sell him marijuana to which he refused. That suspect was reportedly wearing gold teeth, blue jeans, and a blue hoodie.
Paffrath said it was difficult to get a clear description of the other men involved in the beating.
Police are still searching for all suspects, who are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.
“Something needs to be done about the security issue,” Paffrath said. “It seems people get attacked every day at MetroLink. It just has to end sometime.”
St. Louis City police are handling this ongoing investigation.
Officials with MetroLink issued a statement saying: "The safety of our passengers and employees remains our top priority and we will continue to take measures with the assistance of our law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of the public and the Metro Transit System."

Hmmm, the description of the suspooks is very vague: guys in their late teens or early 20s. It's unfortunate that a clearer description wasn't given. That might have helped to find the criminals.
I laughed when I read this statement from subway officials:
"The safety of our passengers and employees remains our top priority"

Maintain situational awareness whenever you're out and about. And try to keep as much distance as possible between yourself and groids.
