Today the biggest threat to the American dream is class.

On the day they start kindergarten, children from families of low socioeconomic status are already more than a year behind the children of college graduates in their grasp of both reading and math.

It isn't "class", it's culture. If you have a culture that values the acquisition of knowledge and aspires to always do better you learn more. On the other hand, when you have a culture that rewards sloth and indolence all you get is ignorance.

It isn't culture, it's genetics. Culture is influenced by your genetics, ie intelligence.

This is true. Back in the 70-90's going to college and being smart was considered "prosperous" and "bettering one's self". Now we have youtube idiots spouting "You don't need to go to college! You can start a business! Join our pyramid scheme! Work at home!" Our culture is moving away from education and more towards get rich quick schemes that fail and many Americans are falling for it.
