There are a lot of people, myself included, that read news to read the comments more than the actual news. That's what popularized formats such as reddit. I used to read CNN quite a bit just to read and make redpilled comments. After they axed the comments, I've never gone back. I feel like getting rid of comments just has to be harming their traffic numbers substantially.
