I've gotta agree here. Crime and Punishment's basic take away for me was that the perpetrator of a crime will take on a bunch of pain and suffering from it too, so it makes sense to me that the demographic that commits violent crime disproportionately, suffers from the shittyness of crime disproportionately, too.
Kindof sounds like how America delt with war reparations after WW2 from Japan and Germany. Crazy that we squashed what they owed us, but figured in the long run it was best for all parties involved.
