Interesting hubbub. Houston has been hailed as sort of representing America's future due to its diversity and strong job market. I recall David Brooks citing it as an example to draw to for a forward looking, optimistic attitude. Curious from him as it is a Democrat city.

The place is overrun with illegals, and is probably more diverse than NYC. It is also seen as a black mecca of nigger empowerment and political power. But Turner barely won the mayoral race and now he is engulfed in the kind of corruption scandal typical for black run city governments.

It's worth noting this is Texas. That state is not what it once was. Indeed, while the black population has been static whites are down with them at 25% of the population. They were over 60% in 1970.

"...due to its diversity and strong job market.." The diversity is due to California transplants and Hurricane Katrina refugees from 2008. The job market is due to business friendly regulations that were in place years before Turner.

The black population is essentially unchanged from 50 years ago. Though it is true Houston got Katrina refugees. It is just probably not very significant.

The place is deemed so diverse because of the relative balance of white, Hispanic, Asian, and black populations. In the case of Hispanics many came directly across the border, not from California.

And though you're right about the strong job market and Turner all of this just shows that even a supposed multicultural showcase like Houston shows signs of being a failboat.
