2) This slave was cooperating with the courts, until he finally realized that the court didn't give two shits what was being said by someone that had representation. When you have a lawyer, he talks, you don't.
3) This slave thought he had more rights than he was able to assert. When you don't assert your rights, you have none. It's a little too late to do this during sentencing.
People really don't understand what court is. They only watch TV and read Facebook, thinking that gives them sufficient education to comment and act. The slave in this video is a perfect example.
