It’s in the sticky above. 4ch trolled an ABC reporter into believing it, pretended to be Jared Jerb and claimed they helped him buy the weapon etc, the AP picked the story up.

That’s investigative journalism in current year, a random person can say anything to a reporter and as long as it fits their narrative they run with it. At the very least a news organization could’ve verified the information with local law enforcement but they just needed their narrative to be spread before a retraction is made that most people will never hear about.

Jared Jerb is a joke to the white nationalist movement so 4ch also loves trolling him.

What's sad is that the damage is done. Anti-Trumpers will latch on to the original story and will just gloss over the retraction (if they even issue one) or read a comment from some other shitlib who finds a way to pretend like the shooter was still ultimately a white supremacist via mental gymnastics so that they can continue to believe the shooting confirmed their worldview.

I agree. I’ve seen that gen z thinks this is a great troll etc but others say normal and older people won’t get it and will buy into the false narrative.

Sometimes you can’t go full troll.
