Pretty much my feelings as well. I always felt GAF was coddling towards losers, but could mostly ignore it. Then the Trayvon Martin shit happened and I noticed the huge disparity between the reaction on reddit and GAF. That caused me to do a little research on the topic, and then I saw the mass bannings in the thread of anyone who questioned the narrative. By the time Gamergate happened, I realized the forum was a far-left shithole. It's even worse in summer 2017 than it was in summer 2014.
Yup. Classical liberal here too, to show how much of a turn-off Gaf's extremism is.
Probably the first time I noticed it was that big brouhaha over Penny Arcade making that hilarious 'raped by the dickwolves' comic strip.
All of a sudden, I witnessed fellow posters that I respected go out of their mind over a funny, harmless comic strip. A dark one to be sure, but that apparently merited a hyperbolic response best compared to 90s parents freaking out that you could shoot someone in a videogame, or music CDs contained swearing.
Weren't we past this? Hadn't society reached the point where it could take a joke, and understand context without screaming it's head off for censorship?
I was a sweet summer child. It only got worse from there.
I always knew the site was so partisan it bordered on parody. Off Topic has always been barely useable because of the smug shitlib contingent. But when I first saw someone type, without irony, "Stay safe" to someone who had merely had their feelings hurt (I'm pretty sure it was an insane "feminist" or tranny), I knew the site was in deep shit. Because very few posters were pointing and laughing at something so absurdly delusional and manipulative.
