Almost every ancient culture that came from the p.i.e. groups have foundation stories of twins. Hengist and Horsa for the Saxons for instance. The slavs have them and some of the Norse stories only talk about Odin and Vili as the sons of Thor with the rest coming later.

That is a very good observation; The twins aspect, does it represent the dual nature of man, the waring of Nations or the sheer fact that these stories have taken on many forms and are fundamentally one story that over time has been fragmented, embellished or adorned according to individual cultures based on demi-gods that actually roamed the earth at a certain point in time?
