[July 2020]
As agreed upon, under Johannesburg, in a renovated ex-ruin, scientists and engineers from South Africa and Mauritania are working to create the next generation of body armor. They have everything in order to begin work, testing, and production. The lab space cost $10K to acquire, and $50K to fully renovate into a super secret awesome science lab. The cost was split between our two nations

Dice: 3d6. Dice based on experience Mauritian engineers and South Africa support.
3-4: The lab burns down do to an incompetence-related accident. In truth, scientist failed so hard they burned everything down to hide their failure.
5-7: Murphey’s Revengeance: everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. Organized Criminal raid the lab steal the early designs
8-10: Flawed plans. There is now a +20% cost per suit of armor
11-13: Development proceeds as expected.
14-15: I’ll negotiate a good deal! {-10% cost per suit}
16-17: Alles Gut! {-10% cost per armor, 5lb lighter than expected}
18: Wizardry! An unsuspecting intern is basically a wizard and manages to make everything better than ever. -20% cost per armor -10 weight.
Time Dice:
Assuming the lab didn’t burn down or the lab wasn’t raised, Roll 3d6 to determine how long until the suits are ready for mass production.
Will take 10 months (will be ready in April 2021)
[m] There were like a lot of links for this, but there were banned domains, so you'll have to take my word for it that the suit, when all the math is done IRL, comes out to $20,000 a suit.

[m] cost 10K Rand to acquire... found a typo
[–] smallpotatoes 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
10,000 rand??
On the plus side your laser would also function as a target painter.
On the negative side I think you've got a typo there concerning a transponder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transponder
On the third way if you succeed in coding the voice guidance system it could be repurposed for all sorts of super cool civilian stuff that could be worth billions...

Apparently the typo runs deep. They have it written as a "light transponder"
Edit 6 to say ) A light transponder on the chest can be activated to signal a helicopter.
Add 8: A tactical flashlight build into the left shoulder of the suit to temporarily blind an combatant.
