MAC? Did you mean IP?

How does VOAT has access to my computer's MAC address?

Voat does not have access to your device's MAC address. This guy is either ignorant, crazy, purposefully creating FUD, or a combination of the above.

The MAC address, by TCP/IP standards, is never communicated outside of the local-area network to which it pertains -- routers beyond that LAN don't even get the information.

And it's also not available via javascript, etc, right?

I just copied the comment - it looked like MAC meant machine - but perhaps @ClintonsRottenSnatch who wrote the comment may have more information.

I have been curious about the ip address information in relation to the endless spam, shill and Amalek hunts and whether anyone at voat can see if various handles are posting from one ip address.

Snatch appears to have run a small experiment and from it, a submission or commenter's ip address would seem to be stored somewhere on the voat [Palantir?] server. If it is on the server, then someone who knows what they are doing could get access to it if they so chose and it would be a key piece of information around which to coalesce posting information etc.

If you post using a VPN then you are disguised, but the VPN service must have your ip address to function. If they are a Palantir front, then there is no hiding.

The best advice is that any comment or submission can be traced back to you for ever, so don't say anything that you don't want seen on a newspaer front page next to your name. Free speech has its limitations, and its consequences.

That's the best advice ever.

We leave digital traces everywhere and VOAT is not the only party that may have access to them.

Don't assume that you are smarter than everybody else or that you can defeat all the possible ways to track you, if somebody has the incentive to do so.

My intro was "Crazy as a Cat" but quicky became "Puss-in-Bots", so you were probably on the money!
