well, irregardless of your personal opinion of them, they have been the cornerstone of society for a very very long time.

feminism, and socialism in a lot of ways, aims to deconstruct the nuclear family. A lot of political philosophers see that as a very very bad thing because it goes against the natural order of humanity. Men are breadwinners, women are nurturers, children are raised by both parents to insure they grow to become functioning and well adjusted members of society.

But hey, that's just what I think.

I am from the post-socialist state. Actually, capitalism proved to be more destructive to the family. Before, people stuck together, because there is nothing better to do. But capitalism opens all sorts of doors to you, and sometimes your spouse will want to take a different one.
