My male coworker and I have been given the opportunity to relocate for our current company and have been given a lengthy list of US States with varying salary ranges that are in need of additional already-trained manpower. We are both married-men whose wives are excited and supportive of the new chance.
However we're both buddies with three separate guys whose marriages went south and are now either in jail (alimony set based off income from a prior job they can't get) or living alone on a cot despite their on-paper massive salaries. While minimal-living is something I like, these guys can never leave their miserable jobs ever or they will almost instantly be headed to jail due to alimony. Sleeping well at night is key to us and it's clear our current state is murderous for alimony.
Some of the top options we instantly ruled out were California (it's a crime to be a man), New York (calculator did not adjust for new taxes so divorcing a woman is basically a sentence to die on the streets), and Florida (most common lifetime alimony state apparently).
Sleeping at night knowing that it's not wife-or-starve-in-the-streets is very important to us.... Are there any states that might give us this closure?
