I meditate because it helps to manage my anxiety.

I also use meditation to deal with acute anxiety. I don't practice regularly enough that I've noticed a decrease in the frequency of attacks, but it is really helpful to be able to feel my anxiety and simultaneously detach from the sense of it's urgency.

Yup. It's good for attacks, and I like to do ten minutes or so a day as a preventative measure. It helps a lot more than I expected.

I meditate as it helps me reduce my stress levels. I'm usually constantly thinking about every single detail of every moment. I constantly worry about whether I've done something or should be do something when there's no need for me to be doing so. I also have difficulty stopping myself from thinking about work when I'm at home.

After meditating I'm in a more relaxed state, I'm not worrying about anything and instead start living in the moment. In an essence it improves my mood drastically.

When do you meditate?

I meditate as soon as I wake up in the morning, not routinely though.

First, there have been a handful of scientific studies showing that regular meditation improves mood and I experience dysthymic depression (basically chronic non-major depression), so I'm hopeful that meditation can become another tool in my kit to deal with that. Second, learning to maintain focus also seems like a really practical meta skill and mediation is basically an exercise in paying attention. Finally, I am going to die someday and I love being alive and would generally like to be more conscious of my life as it unfolds.
