Got a hell of a lot more than a mention.

Yeah I had only read the subtitle when I shared it, it's a full-on ringing endorsement from Breitbart. I'm not a right-winger but Breitbart (and Milo) called it fair with Gamergate and they're on the right side of the Reddit debate too it seems.

I don't think it really matters what Breitbart's political affiliation is. It's getting the site exposure, increasing user counts and pageviews, and generally putting voat in front of more people. Sure, a minority of the people coming in from Breitbart might be crazy conspiracy theorists or Klansmen or whatever, but that's why we have subverses. I'd say the same thing if Motherjones (the left-wing counterpart of Breitbart) ran a piece on voat tomorrow and sent a bunch of communists here, as well. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to say their piece, and the more people we have coming onto this site to do so, the better.

Besides, every pageview counts the same, whether it's from the Grand Wizard or the Pope, and pageviews are what we need right now to get the site in front of as many eyeballs as possible. Once we hit critical mass for pageviews and users, voat will start to really breathe and take off on its own. We're bound to get some extremists from both ends of the political spectrum mixed into that regardless, so I wouldn't worry about it very much.

I wonder when this will reach a tipping point... what will it take to create the Digg 4.0 exodus to voat?

Honestly, I'm thinking it won't take to much more. I'm starting to see more and more posts about some form of fuckery more often now in my main feed. For example the post about ExiledOnMeanStreet being banned from 400+ subreddits has a score of 4490 and is sitting 6th on my feed right now.

Interesting, let's see how the growth will look in a couple of months without reddit drama. If the growth goes back to basically non-existant like it was before this drama, it's not the best sign for the future, there should be at least always be a little growth

No one really knew about it though. Now it is getting mentioned by people and a news site. I think it will keep growing slowly. As long as reddit keeps going the way it is. And it seems there really is no turning back for it, it's already plunging into the safe space abyss.

Great to hear that they see voat this way. I don't really know of any other competitors, but i would not have called voat reddit's main competitor.

Wow the comments though, conservativemind12 seems like a government spokesperson. Trying to seed hate against muslims while claiming free speech should be controlled because of said muslim threat.

That was wild. I had a similar conversation (though way less heated) with someone a while back. The misunderstanding was ultimately over the definition of free speech. Mine was analog to the American bill of rights: the state does not have the right to limit speech. His was completely contrary to that: free speech is speech that is legally permitted.

The only thing I'm hoping that people don't bring over from Reddit is the dumb ass things people say to get upvotes. Like Rekt, anytime someone talks about a mother or breaking arms, or any of that other dumb shit people say that's not even remotely funny.

Oh god, I couldn't stand that.

Someone made a bot called "KARMA_THE_GAME" or something very close to that.

It was the funniest bot EVER! It went around reddit replying to comments like that with a score based on how many popular reddit memes they managed to cram into their comment.

Then it actually cataloged them all and saved them to a list. So you could easily see who the 'tard meme karma whores were.

But, after about a week the bot was gone. I never did find out what happened. If it got banned or the guy running it just shut it down. I'd wager the 1st and not the 2nd.

It would search for terms like "le derp" in /funny or "play stupid games win stupid prizes" in /justiceporn.

I sent the bot messages like, "Keep it up!" and "I'm lovin' it."

Yes, this! I prefer conversation that is relevant. Every reddit post is covered with jokes, and occasionally buried beneath that is relevant conversation on the topic. The only place on Reddit you could achieve this was in niche groups and even then it wasn't always that way.
