Personally my issue with reddit is the upvotes/downvotes for comments. I get concerned when I see something I disagreee with be so highly upvoted or downvoted and it also makes people self censor because they don't want to get downvoted. I know karma doesn't mean shit, but it still affects me a little when I get downvoted to shit.

This. It's not just about karma, the mass downvoting and manipulation of discourse is a form of censorship in it's own right. I also left reddit because of a witch hunt. I pissed off a bunch of angry trolls by daring to have a different opinion to them on their precious sub, and they followed me everywhere, brigading all my comments. It got to the point where I could no longer meaningfully participate in any discussion. They'd plant shills in the discussion to encourage hivemind voting and commenting, and they'd mass upvote themselves and downvote me. I began to feel like I was living in some alternate dimension where I'd have to constantly defend my normal and logical viewpoint. My only option was to self censor, and that just killed it for me.

When I was going through my comment history deleting it all prior to deleting my account, I noticed that this all began about 7-8 months ago. I went from being regularly upvoted to +10/20 to sitting at +1 or 0 for the majority of comments, with the occasional comment at -10 or more. When I set the page to list my comment history as "controversial", the only stuff that showed up was comments from the last 8 months or so. All my "top" comments were prior to that period.

As far as I can tell, what happened 8 months ago was that reddit started to shut down some subreddits that were a hive of assholes. Those assholes, lacking any better place to be, spilled out into other subreddits. They took over, and began waging a war against redditors who were creating content and contributing to discussions. That's my best theory anyway.

Shit.

Seriously wonder if thats what has been happening to me lately. It seems to be worse depending on the subreddit though.

I've been noticing something very similar to my primary account.

Other possible explanations or factors include people being paid to censor certain narratives, and they're targeting anyone who they disagree with. There seems to be an underlining political motivation and theme across all of Reddit though. As far as we know there are bots, and other methods either trolls, paid censors, or mods are using to control different subreddits for different reasons.

It would make sense they would target older more established accounts.
