The January 1, 2016 Privacy Policy update will give them the right to version posts and comments, but we don't know if they're technically set up to do so from day one.

They most likely archive everything anyway so the only thing you'll be doing is deleting it from public view. I'd wager they keep a cache of everything, especially important information like email addresses or other info that's easy to pick out with a script.

You really think that is a priority for reddit? Their draw is new content not years old posts.

Do not underestimate the long tail. Especially for things like solutions to rare tech issues, the long tail is very lucrative.

It's already at the top (well written too), no need for sticky. :)

People will still need to refer to this post days or weeks from now.

I think stickying it would be wise until something more sticky-worthy comes along.

It really is hard to let go of that much of your past. Sometimes it is necessary to move forward though.

I recommend going into your Reddit preferences and showing 100 comments at a time instead of 25, this speeds up overwriting them a bit.

Can someone please ELI5 on how to do this, I don't get the whole Python based/GreaseMonkey based business, I tried installing TamperMonkey on Chrome, but none of the scripts would work, I didn't get any overwrite button with Secure delete, Scrubber doesn't work right now and I don't know how to use Reddit Overwrite.

I just want to nuke my Reddit account.

There may be issues with recent versions of TamperMonkey, the version of GreaseMonkey for Google Chrome. Try GreaseMonkey on Mozilla Firefox if possible.

If not possible, try RedWipe. You're probably on Windows, and it's easy to use.

OK so Secure delete works in firefox but I can't find a way to delete more then the first 25 comments, I looked at the Redwipe link and I have no idea what to do with the files that are shown, I can't find instructions anywhere. Little help?

i am sure all of our activity is saved and stored somewhere on a server whether or not we delete it off of reddit

Almost certainly that is true, but by doing this we leave more room for incompetence to take hold, and as we all know, if there's one thing government is famous for, it's incompetence.

I scrubbed my accounts with the message provided by the greasemonkey 2 days ago (hadn't posted on Reddit with that account for at least a week) and just 2 days ago I got banned from that twochromosomes sub (I rarely post in there). Hahahaha!!! So it looks like some subs/mods are banning people who leave behind a scrub message. Oh well. I don't post much on reddit anymore. Reddit can get bent!

I think I will scrub my last Reddit account now.

That is most likely what happened. Default mods are on alert about exit messages.

This is what a frequent reddit poster got after he ran one of the GreaseMonkey scripts:

That is some SRC shit right there. Thanks for posting these tools, most meta folks knew of them but you're helping many others.

I just used the basic exit message about deleting for privacy concerns, not the one advertising Voat. Reddit comes off as even more petty now. Haha. Banning users who overwrite their OLD posts with a generic message is a whole 'nother level of bitchyness.

Why do they even care? Thats so stupid...

mod: whats this?...psh... banning in 3..2...1..

.....wtf was that for, are they mad, stupid or both? Like banning an account is gonna achieve something....

All listed deletion tools overwrite before deleting.
