The danger of that is users being able to abuse the system against the mods.

Think about 4chan. Any such system would allow any group of trolls to overthrow any mod they so choose via a huge influx of voting/whatever.

I dont agree. If you used 4chan in the past year you should know about the mass exodus to 8chan. 4chan janitors are all power tripping SJWs and so is moot. Every gamergate and fappening and 8chan thread was banned, and for a while /pol/ was banned too

Except there hasn't been a mass exodus. At least not yet.

Maybe eventually there will be some event that promotes a mass exodus, but it hasn't happened yet.

And if you look at Alexa, 4Chan is still doing quite well: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/4chan.org

8Chan did have one helluva spike recently though: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/8ch.net

Except there needs to be a system of checks against the mods, because as of right now, there is not one on reddit, and that's one of the major problems with reddit. The community is forced to be accountable to the mods, but the mods aren't accountable to the community.

A group of renegade mods can worm their way into a community, completely blow it up or change it totally, driving out or marginalizing all of the original members of said community. Look at places like subredditdrama, creepyPMs, or offmychest for pretty classic examples.
