Would be good if /u/atko could give out some numbers with regards to new people signing up / unique visitors just in the past few days. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a big spike.

Honestly since I only frequent the smaller subs of my interests, I didn't notice much. The thing that started to piss me off was when a lot of the AMAs were being done with assistance from, can't remember her name - veronica or something, it just all seemed to set up. Like reddit is telling famous people come, don't worry, someone will hold your hand and help you answer all the questions with a witty response that will get reddit love but avoids answering the question. Then I started seeing more and more interference by mods and admins and just felt like users weren't controlling their experience anymore, talk about a dictatorship by chosen assembly, peoples republic of reddit :P

+1 for that idea, (except not, cos I've run out fo votes :( )

Seeing traffic stats for the last few days /weeks would be really interesting in terms of assessing how much impact the posts from metaredditcancer actually had.

In the status update the admins here on Voat say the numbers skyrocketed.

Victoria is her name, and I have to agree with you. Getting to interact with a celebrity is great but when they're not even the ones typing in the responses then how do we know they're formulating them in the first place?

Reddit was great entertainment for a while. It's sad that they've allowed a takeover by power hungry people with extremist views and a penchant for censorship.

When the AMAs were more spontaneous and "real", they were a lot more fun, however the turned out, the whole (white men can't jump actor) rampart issue and so on, but I think that was the turning point. They knew no famous person would put themselves out there to get slaughtered. btw the people who put an honest effort always come off looking good for at least trying and interacting, unlike the scripted AMAs. I have to say I feel like I know why they are doing what they are doing, advertising money mainly, so I hope Voat doesn't ever get to that point. Lets hope the community can keep it going through other means.
