The slightest news about weight and Reddit goes ape shit. Fuckers need to lay off the Cheetos.

Being fat is a choice (for most) and free speech is a right. Reddit can go to hell.

You'd think reddit would go all social justice on saving the animals from harm since really it's the meat and dairy that turns people into Michelin Man doughballs. But, as usual, reddit is hypocritical as fuck and only cares about their own insecurities that they create themselves.

Most of the people there are overweight. Just look at any of their meetup pictures. It's a fucking sea of whales.

I'm sure this wouldn't happen as often if angry verbal "lynch mobs" didn't come out of the fucking woodwork every time the subject was brought up. It's a push back issue. It never happened before doing that got popular.

There was one video on their TED talk parodies where a guy discussed a business model that consisted of running a "bastion of free speech" website and then selling activists' information to the Chinese government. Every day I would be less surprised if Reddit actually did that.

For some context as to why weight is important for airplanes. There are two things that high weight screws with, lift and balance. If you have too much weight overall your plane never leaves the runway because the wings can't produce enough lift to get off the ground. Balance is just as important because too much of the weight forward or back from the balance point of the airplane (usually the center of the wings) makes the plane hard to control to the point of spinning out of control at a moment's notice in the extreme.

So what happens if too many chunky fuckers decide to board a plane? Well the pilot has to do figure out what to loose. Most of the time it is fuel but there is only so much of that you can lose before you don't have the recommended amount (enough to get to your destination plus 30 minutes of flight time). The next thing to go is luggage. Hopefully it will get onto another flight and make it to your destination. Now if the "My 600 lb Life" convention boards the same plane you have to start kicking people off to get inside the proper limits of the aircraft.

In the summer this weight problem becomes a big, big problem because the air is so hot and at such a low density that even light planes like the one I fly can't even make it off the ground with me in it. Denver has shut down the airports there because the air temperature got too high. So you can see how this problem becomes more of an issue in the summers than in the winter. Sorry but your feels can't changes the laws of physics.

No problem. It is the question I get asked the most outside of "what happens if the engine stops" and "what does all this pilot speak mean?"

All of what you said is correct. But I've never heard of a plane having to remove luggage to bring the weight down. The plane's engines are pretty damn overpowered for safety margins...

That's because you get charged A LOT for extra kg on your luggage, there is a recommended and standard weight on it. Same for humans, 70-75kg is the avg standard weight for humans, at least in EU and it's considered when you engineer stuff like cars, airplanes, etc...

So having a lot of fatties on a plane means the plane is havier, more fuel is used, more expensive it becomes. They could balance that by having no luggage for example but very few have.

I would like to see this rule: you get weight, your bagage get weight, totals. So you get a standard weight of let's say 100kg. If I weigh 62 kg then I can bring up to 100kg in luggage to the plane free of charge!

In a smaller plane it can (Cessna Caravan). In the big airliners (flying buses) it tends not to matter until a bowling ball convention boards the airplane :)

Obviously the people deleting/whining about that thread on reddit have never flown in a small plane (probably too big to fit). I've been on 6 seaters and they've weighed everything - baggage, backpacks, people, etc. I wasn't offended. I figured if it wasn't necessary for the safety of the flight they wouldn't bother doing it because obviously it's a hassle.

Let me tell you how much a pain in the butt weight and balance calculations are... on second thought no. I don't want to be here all night writing a wall of text.

I much prefer voat, but I run out of content on it incredibly quickly and reddit has the cheap mass produced crappy filler that keeps me occupied until my voat page renews itself.

For me, it's small subs (most with no more than a few hundred users) that keep me there. I unsubbed from the defaults a long time ago, but voat isn't large enough to have those smaller subs anywhere near active.

Same here. I moved and never looked back. My dissatisfaction was brewing for some time, and the sub bans were just a breaking point for me. The thought of even typing the domain leaves me with a filthy feeling.

Reddit is a shot of vodka for that quick fix of cheap alcohol on a friday night on the high street. Voat is the 1968 Bordeaux Red that I enjoy with a good friend watching the sun go down.

What's wrong with using an archive site which works on mobile instead of a github whatever that doesn't load properly on phone?

I don't have an archive.is version of the removed comments.

This app is basically a reddit client for the browser with integrated uneddit functionality.

Is the thread completely gone then? I find it a bit funny that it's hosted on github given that they've gone the same unfortunate direction as reddit. Gotta protect those feels

First of all, if you don't want a plane that's too heavy to fly don't fly from the south to the south. They're lucky no one was on the wing trying to deep fry one of the engines.
